For me, one the greatest rewards in my business is when my clients become my friends. I’ll never forget my first Skype date with Monika and Brad… at one point, Brad was holding up his Fat Freddy’s Drop tickets to the screen so I could frantically write down the dates to potentially get tickets too in New Zealand. The first time we met in person, they came to Whistler for Christmas and we did some engagement photos and then naturally went for a beer… which turned into pitchers… and then g&t’s. Some may think that waking up with a hangover from a client meeting is unprofessional, but in my opinion it only means that we really clicked. Conversations flowed and I knew that photographing them on their wedding day was going to be unforgettable.
Kevin and I went to Maui to meet up with all the crazy Kiwi’s and Canadians that had flew in for the celebrations. They rented a beautiful home that housed over 30 of us, which provided the opportunity to get to know one another quite well over the course of 5 days. I got to work alongside a rad team of videographers, Ashley and Brian, who stole my heart a wee bit! Check out their video from Mon & Brad’s wedding here.
Needless to say, the crew of family and friends in attendance were nothing shy of legendary!
Their ceremony and reception was held at Sugarman Estate in Makena. It overlooked the ocean casting epic light and a beautiful breeze. I could stare at palm trees all day. Something about the vibrancy of tropical vegetation… gets me every time.
Gin with muddled mint, Budweiser’s, getting iced, sunsets, tiki torches, pineapple cups, endless ocean views, a warm sea breeze, good company, and endless laughter; that’s how Hawaii weddings roll. Here are a few captures from Monika and Brad’s Maui wedding.
