Okay, maybe wake surfing in May isn’t the most ideal, it was a little cold… but it was so much fun!!

Whistler Wake is a local “wake everything” company. They take you out on beautiful Green Lake, a glacier fed lake just North of Whistler village, pump the music up and teach you a thing or two on how to board, skate, ski, well you get the idea.

Regardless of the cool waters, they suited us up in some serious wet suits and we cruised around all afternoon in the heat of the sun. If you just want to be in the water, or on the boat check these guys out because they really provide an amazing time.

This photo shoot was to promote their Women On Water On Wednesday (W.O.W.O.W) nights, grab a bunch of your closest girl friends and learn to ride the wake… you won’t be disappointed.

I arrived at The Fairmont not really sure what to expect from the crowd or the space I would be photographing in. I walked into the lobby and saw a bunch of people standing outside one of the ballrooms and immediately thought “this is going to be huge!”. I’m unsure of the final count of those who attended but it was arm to arm, front to back stuffed of amazing and energetic people.

It was a challenge for me because there was no natural light to work with (yes I have been spoiled while shooting at the SLCC) but I always like a good challenge.

Patricia and Peter live in Toronto and decided to have their wedding in Whistler! How romantic! It’s always refreshing as a local to show people your favourite spots to go to, I find it reminds you why you enjoy those locations to begin with.

I took Patricia and Peter to a few different locations, all of which they had never been to which is always exciting!

I photograph a lot of people who have no experience in front of a camera and it can be a little daunting. I know myself I am not a big fan of having a lens pointed at me, but with a little patience and some laughter the true you will emerge. I like to consider the first 20 minutes standard “warm up”. People want to pose because they think that’s what they are suppose to be doing, but once they become a little more comfortable with the shutter releasing the real beauty unfolds. These are the moments I truly enjoy what I do. I love laughing with people and making them come out of their shell. It isn’t always easy, but that’s the challenging aspect of portrait photography that helps me grow.
